Description
**Watermark Not on Final Print**
This painting shows young men bathing in the Seine River at Asnieres, a suburb of Paris. On the right is the island of La Grande Jatte. In the distance are the factories of Clichy, France.
George Seurat was considered to be a Post-Impressionist painter. During his brief career (he died at the young age of 31), Seurat invented a technique known as pointillism, which is basically painting by very small dots. Interestingly, modern digital photographs are formed by tiny dots known as pixels. The two techniques are very similar.
The colours and tone in this painting have clearly been influenced by Impressionism. Seurat, however, was able to extend this influence by using smooth, simplified textures. Notice also how the figures as outlined are almost sculptural in appearance.
Unlike most painters of his era, Seurat was very methodical in his approach to painting. He did not freeform anything. This image is the end result of numerous sketches and preliminary oil paintings. The end result is one of the most famous paintings of its era (1884).
This image of the painting was created by photographing the original picture with a high-definition Leica camera. This guarantees that you get the finest quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
Prints are produced on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee they last a lifetime without fading or loss of contrast, colour or tone.
If you chose to order a framed print, the framing is done to museum quality with archival matting. The frame is wired and comes with a wall hook. It is ready to hang on the wall.
