Description
The Boulevard Montmartre at Night by Camille Pissarro.
This painting is part of Camille Pissarro's Boulevard Montmartre cityscape series. It was painted in 1897 near the end of Pissarro's life.
This is the only night scene that Pissarro ever painted and it is one of the very few Impressionist paintings that show a night scene.
It is interesting to compare this painting to the next painting in this collection called "Boulevard Montmartre Spring Morning". The two paintings complement each other.
Pissarro painted the same scene of this famous Parisian boulevard at various times of day, at various times of the year and under different weather conditions. Notice in this night painting how the street lights and shop fronts are more prominent than in the daylight painting. Notice also the difference between this painting done in the winter when the trees were bare and the spring painting when the trees have begun to bloom.
This painting clearly evokes the atmosphere of a wet winter evening.
This image of the painting was created by photographing the original picture with a high-definition Leica camera. This guarantees that you get the finest quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
Prints are produced on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee they last a lifetime without fading or loss of contrast, colour or tone.
If you chose to order a framed print, the framing is done to museum quality with archival matting. The frame is wired and comes with a wall hook. It is ready to hang on the wall.
