Description
Landscape on the Coast near Menton by Auguste Renoir
Renoir painted this picture along the Mediterranean coast between Marseilles and Genoa in 1883. He traveled to the region with his good friend and fellow Impressionist painter Claude Monet.
Renoir loved the region so much that he eventually settled here near the end of his life. In this image, he attempts to capture the essence of the region from a wind-swept pine grove on a bluff overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Renoir's choice of bold colors and feathery brushstrokes make it seem as if the wind is blowing through the painting.
This image was created by photographing the original painting with a high-definition Leica camera. This guarantees that you get the finest quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
