Iceland Turf Farmhouse by Miles Whittingham
This is a view of a classic Icelandic turf farmhouse. They are called turf houses because the house is partially buried in the ground and it has a turf grass roof. This style of construction is very old and goes back a thousand years to the days of the Vikings.
Today, these turf houses are rare even in Iceland. Most are found in outdoor museums.
