Iceland Volcanic Mountain View by MG Whittingham
This is a close-up view of one of the famous rhyolite mountains in the highlands of Iceland. These mountains are rich in iron, copper, manganese and silicates. This is what gives the mountains their incredible colours.
Rhyolite mountains are rare and are found in just three inaccessible places on the entire planet.
This photograph was taken near Kerlingarfjoll in the Landmannalaugar region of Iceland. It is a remote region located deep within the interior of Iceland. The entire region receives few visitors. It is only accessible by a long 4x4 journey and only during the brief summer months.
The stark landscape, high elevation and volcanic activity in the region makes an incredible scene. Normally, these mountains are covered in fog and mist. I was fortunate to be able to capture this image on a day when the sun was shining.
The conditions, however, were challenging. The turbulence in the clouds gives an indication of the gale force winds that were blowing that day. It was also quite cold.
This photograph was taken with a professional Leica medium format camera. The superb quality and high resolution of the camera guarantees that you get the the highest possible image quality. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
Prints are produced on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee they last a lifetime without fading or loss of contrast, color or tone.
If you chose to order a framed print, the framing is done to museum quality with archival matting. The frame is wired and comes with a wall hook. It is ready to hang on the wall.
