Description
Pershing Square is at the corner of Park Avenue and 42nd Street. At one time, it was a proper square, but after Grand Central Station was built in became a small area under the viaduct that goes through the station.
At least the sign is still visible in this store front to mark the location of the square. This is a familiar sight to anyone who comes out of the train station late at night.
Pershing Square by the way is named after John "Black Jack" Pershing, an American general in World War I. The Pershing missile is also named after him.
