Description
Haleakala National Park, Maui Hawaii.
This is an incredibly unusual photograph. It shows a rare natural halo phenomena that only happens under certain conditions on certain days for one or two minutes right at sunset at just one spot at the peak of Haleakala volcano.
The effect is technically called a Brocken spectre. The effect only occurs at two or three places on earth.
Basically, what you are looking at in this image is a magnified halo of me cast down on the clouds above the valley floor well over a 1,000 feet away. As I moved, so did my halo. The effect is surreal. It is like seeing yourself as an angel complete with spectral aurora.
