Description
**Watermark Not on Final Print**
This painting is designed to look like a tapestry. It was made by Rubens for the Archduchess Isabella, the sister of King Philip III of Spain. At the time, the Netherlands (where Rubens lived) was under the control of Spain.
The scene in the picture is a depiction of the Old Testament sacrifice of a lamb, which served as a foreshadowing of the sacrifice of Christ.
Notice how Rubens uses powerful flowing figures and vivid colours to get across to the viewer the essential elements of the scene. Notice also how the scene is full of religious iconography, such as the Arc of the Covenant being carried into the scene in the upper right hand corner.
This image was created by photographing the original painting with a high-definition Leica camera. This guarantees that you get the finest quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
Prints are produced on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee they last a lifetime without fading or loss of contrast, colour or tone.
If you chose to order a framed print, the framing is done to museum quality with archival matting. The frame is wired and comes with a wall hook. It is ready to hang on the wall.
