The Winged Victory of Samothrace, also called the Nike of Samothrace, or simply Winged Victory is one of the most famous and celebrated sculptures in the world.
It sits in the Louvre Museum. People pass by in on their way to see the Mona Lisa painting.
The Winged Victory of Samothrace is a Greek sculpture of Nike, the goddess of victory. Some critics consider it to be "the greatest masterpiece of Hellenistic sculpture". Most ancient Greek sculptures in museums today are actually Roman copies. This is, however, an original.
The Victory of Samothrace is about 8 feet tall. It is thought to have been made to celebrate an ancient Greek naval battle. It is over two thousand years old.
In this photograph, I have to show how this ancient sculpture manages to stand still in the flow of time. The people walking by the sculpture are almost ethereal, really nothing more than a shadowy wisp of time.
This image was created with a high-definition Leica camera. This guarantees that you get the finest quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
Prints are produced on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee they last a lifetime without fading or loss of contrast, colour or tone.
If you chose to order a framed print, the framing is done to museum quality with acid-free matting, conservation glass and an eco-friendly wood frame. The frame is wired and comes with a wall hook. It is ready to hang.
