Description
Two Peasant Women in a Meadow by Camille Pissarro
At first glance, this looks like a simple composition of two peasant women having a conversation in a tranquil meadow. Cows can be seen grazing in the background. In fact, in this painting Pissarro was attempting to capture in his words "the fullness, suppleness, liberty, spontaneity and freshness of sensation postulated by Impressionist art".
Pissarro accomplished by using a variety of short, detailed brushstrokes. This had the effect of enlivening the composition and bringing out the texture of the various elements of the picture, such as the grass, the trees and the sky. The end result is that the viewer can almost smell the outdoors.
Pissarro painted this composition in 1893. Notice how the view is framed on both sides by partially visible trees. The long shadow cast by the kneeling woman suggests that it is the end of another beautiful summer day.
This image was created by photographing the original painting with a high-definition Leica camera. This guarantees that you get the finest quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
Prints are produced on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee they last a lifetime without fading or loss of contrast, colour or tone.
If you chose to order a framed print, the framing is done to museum quality with archival matting. The frame is wired and comes with a hook. It is ready to hang on the wall.
