Description
Traditional Icelandic Farm Buildings by Miles Whittingham
This is a view of traditional Icelandic farm buildings. These buildings are often called turf buildings because the building is partially buried in the ground and it has a turf grass roof. This style of construction is very old and goes back a thousand years to the days of the Vikings.
Today, these turf buildings are rare even in Iceland. Most are found in outdoor museums. I came across these buildings in a farmer's field in eastern Iceland. They looked so beautiful nestled up against a mountain cliff to provide protection against the elements.
Judging by the gravestones in the nearby family cemetery, these buildings appear to be at least a hundred years old and some of the buildings were possibly much older (the farm dates back to the 1780s).
This beautiful photograph was taken with a professional Leica medium format camera. The superb quality and high resolution of the camera guarantees that you get the the highest image quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
Prints are produced on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee they last a lifetime without fading or loss of contrast, colour or tone.
If you chose to order a framed print, the framing is done to museum quality with archival matting. The frame is wired and comes with a wall hook. It is ready to hang on the wall.
