Description
The Harvest Pontoise by Camille Pissarro 1881
In this painting, Pissarro shows the potato harvest in the village of Pontoise, which is now a suburb of Paris.
Pissarro was fascinated by the potato harvest. He painted and drew it multiple times over a period of 30 years.
Pontoise is hilly region. Notice how the potatoes has been planted on a steep hill and a tree is growing in the middle of the potato patch. Pissarro also painted the scene using short broken brushstrokes consistent with the Impressionist style.
