This picture shows the crowning of the Virgin Mary by Christ and God. It is an oil sketch that Rubens drew as a prepatory study for an altarpiece planned for a church in Antwerp.
Notice how Rubens use of vivid colours, active figures and powerful, flowing movement is used to attract the eye of the viewer. This approach came to define what later became known as the Flemish Baroque style.
This image was created by photographing the original oil sketch with a high-definition Leica camera. This guarantees that you get the finest quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
