Description
These two street vendors were not having much luck that cold February night. There were no tourists at all and few people in general on the streets. The vendor of the stall on the right side of the picture had actually walked over to the other vendor on the left to talk to him. It did take a nice picture with Rockefeller Centre in the background.
Rockefeller Center in the background was illuminated that night with spotlights, which made for an interesting composition. Rockefeller Centre is actually a complex of 19 different buildings covering the entire block between 5th and 6th Avenue and between 49th and 50th street in Manhattan. The entire complex revolves around Rockefeller Plaza, which is directly ahead in this image just before the illuminated building.
Rockefeller Center is the home of NBC and Comcast (who now have their name on the top of the building). It was originally named after John D. Rockefeller Jr, who began developing the site in 1928. The buildings all have a beautiful Art Deco to them and are worth a visit if you happen to be in midtown New York.
