Description
Rhyolite Mountain Panorama by Miles Whittingham
This is a panoramic photograph of the famous rhyolite mountains in the highlands of Iceland. These mountains are rich in iron, copper, manganese and silicates. This is what gives the mountains their incredible colours.
Rhyolite mountains are rare and are found in only a few inaccessible places on the planet.
This photograph was taken near Kerlingarfjoll in the Landmannalaugar region of Iceland. It is a remote region located deep within the interior of Iceland. The entire region receives few visitors. It is only accessible by a long 4x4 journey and only during the brief summer months.
If you look closely, you can see two hikers standing by a volcanic steam vent near the bottom left corner of the photograph.
The conditions, however, were challenging. The turbulence in the clouds gives an indication of the gale force winds that were blowing that day. It was also cold.
This photograph was taken with a professional Leica medium format camera. The superb quality and high resolution of the camera guarantees that you get the the highest possible image quality. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
Prints are produced on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee they last a lifetime without fading or loss of contrast, colour or tone.
If you chose to order a framed print, the framing is done to museum quality with archival matting. The frame is wired and comes with a wall hook. It is ready to hang on the wall.
