This is the incredibly rare Mercedes Benz W154. Built for the Grand Prix, it was a popular racing vehicle in the 1938 and 1939 seasons. And then World War II broke out. Few of these cars remain.
This car had a 3,000 cc 12 cylinder super-charged engine. It produced roughly 450 horsepower, which was an incredible output for the time.
The body was made from sheet aluminum (which was rare for pre-World War II and also incredibly expensive at the time). The frame was nickel-chrome molybdenum, not exactly a common automotive material even today.
In many ways, this was *the* ultimate car.
