Glacial Beach Ice 4 by Miles Whittingham

This image was taken at sunrise on Iceland's famous black diamond beach.

The diamond in 'black diamond beach' refers to the 1,000 year old glacial ice that washes up onto the black lava beach.

This image is the fourth in a series of seven images showing the wave action on black diamond beach. Images can be purchased individually or in a series.

If you look closely at the glacial ice, you can see that it has a distinct blue tint. This shows that this piece of ice comes from the bottom of the glacier. The many tons of weight has compressed the ice so much that it has no air bubbles. This causes the ice to turn blue.

This 1,000 year-old ice has a very unique taste. It goes well with scotch.

This photograph was taken with a professional Leica medium format camera. The superb quality and high resolution of the camera guarantees that you get the the highest image quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
