Description
Dance at Bougival by Auguste Renoir
Bougival is a town on the Seine River just outside of Paris. The town was a popular recreation spot for Parisians escaping the city on a Sunday afternoon. In the evenings, people would dance at the open air cafes and beer gardens around the town.
In this image, one of Renoir's most famous, a boatman in a straw hat is dancing with his well-dressed partner. The lack of gloves on the woman's hand, the hint of a wedding ring, the closeness of their embrace and their flush red cheeks suggest a couple deep in love.
Even the gaze of the man and the way he tenderly holds the woman's hand as she gently arches her body shows their joy of life.
This image was created by photographing the original painting with a high-definition Leica camera. This guarantees that you get the finest quality possible. The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
